This story brought me to tears😥. It made me think about sitting in the African American History class of Dr. Benjamin Quarles at Morgan. He was an outstanding teacher, who shared many stories about racist acts of violence against Black people; including lynchings. But nothing that he shared moved me to tears. His stories made me angry, and militant-minded; it was the 60’s and the Black Power movement. Your telling of someone story that you knew made it real for me. Thank you for sharing ❤️

Oh Tina, your comments mean more to me than you can imagine. I’m so glad the story moved you. I’ve been nervous about sharing this one for reasons we’ve discussed many times, but I think it needed to be shared. Thank you for your support and I hope you’re well 💜

Nice cliff hanger! I’ve been waiting and waiting for you to write this story. You evoke all the emotions - anger, compassion, disbelief, and relief that amidst the evil in this world, there is good, even at the risk of dire consequences. If we could just avoid history repeating itself in same but different forms. Keep writing, Marth. I wait with bated breath.

Amen to that, Di. History repeating itself seems to be an unavoidable aspect of history! But in the long scope of things, good inches ahead? Let’s hope. Thank you for your support, and for your insights, which are always spot on 💜💜💜

Thank you, Marti. You’ve summed up exactly the effect I’d hoped this piece would have. I’m so grateful for you and your insightful reading and observations.

Thank you, as always, for your wonderful word painted pictures. You present the truth, even the harshest realities, making us all share what really happened that tv news just could not convey. As a ninth grader in the north, we only saw what the major news networks provided. Those black and white videos never really told the whole story. We need your story to celebrate MLK Day and for this time in history as well.
